Speaking on the Activist Theology podcast, Talarico described his own relationship to his faith tradition in blunt terms, then said the revolutionary teachings of Jesus are what keep drawing him back to it.

Talarico posted the claim in a video during his opposition to rules requiring K-12 school sports participation to follow biological sex. The line has followed him through later statewide campaigns.

During debate over transgender participation in school sports, Talarico counted chromosome variations as separate sexes and told colleagues that modern science recognizes more than two. He was widely mocked for the framing.
“In fact, there are six.”
The official Texas House journal, page 4214, record vote 1686, lists Talarico voting nay on advancing Senate Bill 14 to third reading. The bill prohibited specified transition surgeries, puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for patients under 18, with statutory exceptions.
Talarico offered Amendment 11 to Senate Bill 14, exempting health providers to the extent that compliance with the prohibitions conflicted with the Hippocratic oath. It failed 56 to 82, record vote 1677, journal pages 4203 and 4204.
In floor debate on Senate Bill 14, Talarico defended hormonal treatment for minors with severe gender dysphoria and described the legislation in the strongest terms available to him.

Running statewide in June 2026, Talarico stated that he opposes gender reassignment surgery for minors. In May 2023, he voted nay on advancing Senate Bill 14 to third reading. That bill covered specified surgeries, puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, so the vote does not establish support for every procedure it restricted. He also authored an amendment creating a Hippocratic-oath exception.

His statewide message stresses opposition to surgery for minors. His legislative record shows opposition to the bill restricting those surgeries alongside hormonal treatment, plus an effort to create an exception.
In an interview with the Texas Freedom Network, Talarico urged Christians to challenge the Religious Right on LGBTQ policy and described transgender children in explicitly theological language.
“They are perfect. They are beautiful. They are sacred.”
Asked on the Superbloom podcast what he loved beyond family and friends, Talarico pointed to transgender children advocating at the Texas Capitol and called their presence inspiring. Fox News later criticized his phrasing.
The Washington Free Beacon published promotional material and photographs showing that Talarico spoke at the TaylorPRIDE festival, an event that also featured an 11-year-old drag performer billed as Kween Kee Kee.
On The Joe Rogan Experience, Talarico argued that the annunciation, in which Mary is asked and agrees to bear a child, supports a right to reproductive choice.

About 28 minutes into the same Rogan interview, Talarico said later abortions happen almost exclusively to save the mother's life, describing immediate threats to her life as the only circumstances. Rogan pushed back on the claim.
In a 2023 sermon, later reported by the New York Post, Talarico argued that God transcends religion and human categories, and defended abortion in the same address.

A longtime pastor writing in Decision magazine rebuked Talarico for describing Christ with a modern political label. The relevant fragment of his description is quoted below.

In a New Yorker profile interview, Talarico compared Judaism, Christianity and Islam to seasons of a television series and gave his own historical judgment that Christianity had done more damage to the other two traditions than they had done to each other.
“My religion has done more damage to both of those religions than they’ve done to each other.”
Talarico publicly opposed requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in Texas public school classrooms, arguing against government-mandated displays rather than against voluntary religious practice by students.
In social media posts later revisited by the New York Post, Talarico used a contagion metaphor to describe race in America. He made clear the virus in the metaphor was racism, including in people who display no overt racist symbols.
“White skin gives me and every white American immunity from the virus. But we spread it wherever we go.”
Talarico promoted legislation providing for diversity, equity and inclusion instruction and for DEI officers in districts above a specified size, as reported by the Texas Tribune.
Talarico directed a $2,500 campaign donation to the Austin Justice Coalition, a group that advocated shifting police funding toward social programs, and he defended the donation when it drew criticism.

At the same period, Talarico compared leading the oil and gas industry to leading the cassette tape business in the 1980s and drew a conclusion about the industry's future.

In a Democratic primary debate, Talarico described Immigration and Customs Enforcement as a secret police force and proposed tearing the agency down and rebuilding immigration enforcement in another form.
Our Revolution endorsed Talarico, describing him as a progressive leader. In 2021 he praised Roberto Che Henderson-Espinoza's Activist Theology on the podcast of the same name.
At a graduation ceremony for incarcerated students, Talarico proposed moving half the spending on wars, prisons and policing into education, health care and jobs, arguing that this could eventually eliminate the need for prisons.

In a virtual meet-and-greet, Talarico listed bans on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines among gun restrictions he wanted to champion. He also discussed restrictions on large firearm purchases and possible handgun design standards.

Responding to a reparations question at a DeSoto town hall, Talarico advocated tuition relief, homeownership grants and baby bonds as ways to invest in Black communities and address past injustices. The remarks did not specify a cash payment, price tag or eligibility formula.
“We have to correct the injustices of our past.”
His campaign proposes citizenship pathways for long-established undocumented immigrants and specified groups including spouses and DREAMers. More recent arrivals could apply for temporary work permits when filling jobs intended to reduce Americans' costs. The platform also prioritizes deporting criminals, gang members and human traffickers.
Talarico proposes higher corporate taxes, higher taxes on stock buybacks and higher taxes on billionaires' income and capital gains. He also calls for a special corporate tax when top executives earn more than 250 times the median worker's salary and a $15 federal minimum wage.
Talarico proposes allowing Americans of any age to join Medicare as an optional government insurance plan alongside private coverage.
His campaign supports legal regulated marijuana sales for adults, taxes on those sales, and expungement of criminal arrest records related to marijuana use.
